Athletics Hydration Specialist

Sports Medicine Student Worker – Hydration Crew

The Stony Brook University Sports Medicine Department is looking for motivated, professional, dependable individuals with a strong work ethic to fill the position of “hydration specialist”. This position will be working directly with student-athletes on the football team.  This will require the student to work between 7-12 hours a week.  Compensation includes hourly wages, Division I Athletic experience, and Nike shirts to wear while working.  

Hydration Specialist Expectations

The Student Worker is expected to assist with quality health care to Stony Brook University student-athletes.  This requires the Student Worker to be willing to observe, learn, and take part in athletic training skills.  He/she/they will be required to take directions and perform tasks that directly help the student-athletes. Listed below are other expectations:

  • Show professionalism. 
  • Be punctual and reliable.
  • Show and maintain a strong work ethic.
  • Maintain confidentiality.

 

Job Requirements

  1. Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (Employer will train and pay for the certification if needed).
  2. Be able to lift and move objects of up to 50lbs in weight.
  3. Be available to work between the hours of 8:00am-12:00pm – includes weekend availability
  4. Be attentive on the field during shift hours and responsive to supervisor assigned tasks. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have an understanding of American Football and an athletic environment.
  • Have an interest in sports/health science field. 
  • Have availability to work throughout the entire month of August and potentially into the Fall Semester.

Practice/Scrimmage Responsibilities:   

Setup/break down of field supplies daily.

Remain with a position coach and players and is responsible for the hydration of those players. 

Alert Certified Athletic Trainers of any injury or problem.

Assist with injury management and first aid by following the Certified Athletic Trainer’s instructions in any situation.

Know where the emergency equipment is located and be ready to assist in any emergency situation.

The position is to begin in August 2024 and will run through the end of the month – extension into the fall semester will be contingent on needs and scheduling.  

**There will be an orientation day that will be scheduled and MUST be attended prior to be allowed to work. 

** Anyone requiring CPR certification must complete that prior to being able to work. 

**Any international students applying MUST have their SSN PRIOR to their first day working.
