Teaching and Learning Librarian

Do you enjoy teaching and working with undergraduate students? Are you interested in supporting learners in finding, evaluating, and using a wide variety of information sources? Do you enjoy learning and using new technology?

The Teaching & Learning Librarian position, located in the UW-Madison Libraries’ Teaching & Learning Programs office, works as part of a team to develop and teach in-person information literacy instruction sessions primarily for undergraduate general education courses. This position also contributes to the office’s Online Learning Team, assisting with the development, assessment, and maintenance of a growing collection of online learning objects that support student research and learning.

In addition, this position collaborates with staff in the Libraries’ Teaching & Learning Programs office and with other library instruction staff to develop and conduct assessment of student learning, and create documentation and develop best practices in support of the Libraries’ instruction program.

This is an entry-level position. Candidates with demonstrated interest in instruction and online learning are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be provided with professional development, training, and mentoring to support their growth in these areas.

Tasks:

-Provides instruction services for undergraduate general education courses by designing, developing, and delivering library instruction in a variety of formats, including online.

-Collaborates on assessment and evaluation of library instruction, primarily for foundational research and general education courses.

-Uses strong written and verbal communication skills to facilitate successful project management. 

-Participates actively on library committees related to instruction and areas of interest.

-Keeps current with developments in pedagogy, librarianship, online instruction, and relevant technology via engagement in professional organizations and professional development.

-Assists with the coordination of day-to-day tasks related to Library instruction services, including scheduling, referrals, and maintaining statistics.

Degree Requirements: 

Master’s Degree. MA/MS in Library/Information Studies, Education, Instructional Design, or equivalent degree

Required qualifications

  • Demonstrated interest in or experience with in-person instruction
  • Demonstrated interest in or experience with online instruction or development of online learning resources
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Preferred qualifications

  • Interest in exploring and learning new technology
  • Strong communication skills in a team or group context
  • Demonstrated interest in or experience with public speaking or leading training
