Nature Camp Counselor (Seasonal)

Salary Range:$11.00 To 11.00 Hourly

The City of Leawood, Kansas will be accepting applications for the Seasonal Nature Camp Counselor until April 5, 2024. 

 

Summary/Objective

The Nature Camp Counselor assists the Nature Education Coordinator in presenting the educational nature camp activities.   This position assists in the safety and supervision of campers ranging in age from five to eleven years of age.

 

Essential Functions / Responsibilities

  • Assists the Nature Education Coordinator in presenting educational programs for campers that focus around nature, which may include but not limited to nature-based activities, nature hikes, playing with animals and learning about plants.
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating camper records including but not limited to attendance, consent forms, and emergency forms.
  • Responsible for maintaining order and discipline amongst campers; always safeguarding their health and safety while the camper is participating in camp activities.
  • May be required to make decisions regarding inclement weather which may warrant cancelling participation or seeking shelter.
  • May be asked by the supervisor or acting supervisor to perform other duties that are not listed but are essential to the job.

Education, Training, and Certification Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have a minimum of 6 months of experience working with children. Experience may include but not limited to providing childcare, teaching and/or working as a Camp Counselor.
  • Must currently hold or be able to obtain a CPR Certificate and First Aid Certificate.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record per the City’s drivers Use of Vehicles for City Business policy throughout employment with the City.
