EMT Paid Apprentice (Full Time-JFK Medical Center)

Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) is partnering with approved NJ EMS training centers to provide an opportunity for individuals looking to enter the healthcare field as an Emergency Medical Technician. Candidates of this role will be paid to attend the program. The cost of tuition and books will also be covered. While the program is in session, students will have the opportunity to begin their Hackensack Meridian Health orientation and onboarding.

Upon successful completion of the EMT Apprentice Program and NREMT examination, candidates will commit to a minimum of two years of employment at Hackensack Meridian Health as a full-time EMT.

RESPONSIBILITIES

A day in the life of a EMT Apprentice at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Attends all training sessions in person.
     
  • Completes all assigned coursework.
     
  • Verifies skills proficiency by passing the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians examination.
     
  • Interacts professionally with peers, patients, leadership, colleagues from other EMS agencies, public safety personnel, and hospital emergency department staff.
     
  • Responsible for baseline and continuing knowledge of all applicable State and Federal statutes and regulations concerning emergency medical services, basic life support ambulance service, EMT certification, etc.
     
  • Conducts self in a professional and dignified manner at all times, so as to preserve the public's perception of JFK EMS as New Jersey's leading healthcare provider.
     
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
     
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Valid Driver's License from a USA state.

Contacts:

  • All JFK personnel, Local EMS Personnel, Municipal, County and State Officials. Must interact appropriately with all JFK management, EMS personnel, hospital personnel, public safety personnel, and members of the public. Must be capable of communicating clearly and effectively via written and verbal means. Maintains a professional demeanor and appearance during all interactions.
