Research Specialist

Job Summary:

The Research Specialist position will support the health experiences research portfolio led by Dr. Rachel Grob, Director of the Qualitative and Health Experiences Research Lab (Q-HER) within the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. This research is designed to elicit diverse experiences people are having with health and health care; to synthesize what we can learn from these narratives; and to make health and health care better by implementing what is learned from these studies.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, coordination of multiple projects, conducting literature reviews, supporting research administrative tasks such as submitting grants, maintaining data and project organization according to IRB specifications, overseeing project processes and the delegation of tasks, leading and/or assisting with project product development and submission, maintenance and generation of clips from interview video and audio files, and assisting with dissemination and implementation for various projects.

Responsibilities:Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision.

  • 25% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
  • 15% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
  • 15% Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
  • 20% Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
  • 5% Performs literature reviews and writes reports
  • 20% Helps prepare, organize, and maintain video, audio, and text clips for the study team

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree

Qualifications:

Required:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Minimum 1 year of professional research experience, qualitative research is preferred.
- Ability to provide support to multidisciplinary teams

Preferred:
- Demonstrated organizational skills
- Ability to follow research protocols or other detailed procedures consistently and accurately, with a high level of attention to detail
- Experience with video editing software
- Ability to communicate (both verbal and written) and interact professionally with research team, study participants, and external collaborators
- Interest in public health and/or social sciences
- Familiarity and/or experience with Adobe and Google platforms

License/Certification:

Required
Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards
Travel is required. Must provide own transportation or a valid driver's license and eligibility for Car Fleet usage is necessary.
