Accounts Receivable Specialist

Independence Physician Management (IPM), a subsidiary of UHS, was formed in 2012 as the physician services unit of UHS. IPM develops and manages multi-specialty physician networks and urgent care clinics which align with UHS acute care facilities. POSITION OVERVIEW
  
The Accounts Receivable Team Lead is responsible for handling complex, escalated and high dollar claims that were billed to insurance and remain unpaid. The Team Lead is the subject matter expert for all insurance AR issues and is responsible for identifying at risk accounts based on aging criteria in order to exceed collection targets and minimize write-offs. The Team Lead provides training and acclimates all incoming AR Specialists to the AR team upon successful completion of their onboarding provided by the IPM Training Department. This individual acts as a coach/mentor for new hires as they navigate through their probationary period and develop into successful AR Specialists. The Team Lead additionally works with the Markets to address account specific questions and concerns. The position will continually monitor unresolved AR to identify trends and solutions that promote a healthier revenue cycle. The Team Lead consistently supports the AR department to promote teamwork and rally the group by demonstrating motivation and enthusiasm to encourage the department to operate at maximum performance levels.
 
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  •  Maintains a strong knowledge of many payers in order to provide support to AR Specialists and the Market staff by being available to answer questions about outstanding AR. Assists in problem solving for challenging accounts.
  • Conducts training for all AR Specialists upon successful completion of their onboarding provided by the IPM Training Department. Provides ongoing training on specific AR guidelines, payer requirements and department workflows in order to ensure the AR Specialists have the tools and information needed to meet the established standards for quality and productivity.
  • Successfully works complex and/or high dollar projects assigned by Supervisor resulting from identified trends and issues. Provides education and suggestions for enhanced workflows that will result in improved revenue cycle processes.
  • Acts as the first line of escalation when A/R follow-up efforts do not result in timely resolution. Continually monitors AR Specialists work queues to ensure work is being completed in a timely manner and assigned stratification is being followed.
  • Works with the Contract Management system utilizing this tool to identify opportunities and trends on unpaid, denied, and underpaid claims. Takes necessary follow-up steps with payers to resolve outstanding issues
  • Resolves accounts assigned in Practice Management Work Queues (such as Late Charge Review and Referral Work Queue) in a timely manner. Approves high dollar adjustments according to AR department guidelines.
  • Covers day-to-day Supervisor duties in the event of his/her absence.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
  • Customer Service Experience
  • Basic Typing and Computer Skills, including proficiency in common programs such as those found in Microsoft Office.
  • Phone Etiquette
  • Ability to return successful results when conducting Internet searches
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Medical Terminology/Health Insurance Navigation a plus
  • Call/Contact Center experience a plus
  • Strong desire to work within a team structure
