The Department of Education is looking for an individual to fill an Assistant Child Nutrition Program Director position in the Child and Adult Nutrition Services (CANS) office. The position will assist in planning, leading, and managing the federal School Nutrition Programs.
The Assistant Child Nutrition Program Director is:

The individual will:
  • work with the administrator to evaluate programs to ensure effectiveness and relevance to federal requirements;
  • direct and evaluate the work of staff and contractors on program initiatives;
  • interpret and maintain an understanding of federal regulations and guidance;
  • assist in developing and updating policies and procedures;
  • collect, analyze and report data to meet federal and state reporting requirements;
  • provide instructions for work assignments and communicate expected results;
  • provide technical expertise and training to program staff, districts and schools, and other agencies;
  • propose challenging goals for program staff and evaluate progress;
  • assist in determining ratings on performance evaluations to include supporting comments that provide an accurate portrayal of the employee’s performance during the evaluation period;
  • be part of a team of professional, dependable and accountable individuals;
  • travel in and out of the state.
WE WILL TRAIN THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT ON THE CHILD NUTRITION PROGRAM FEDERAL REGULATIONS. 
The Ideal Candidate Will Have: 
Education in the field of nutrition, dietetics, public health, or related field is preferred. Experience as a supervisor and working with a federal nutrition program is preferred. 
Knowledge of: 
  • child nutrition;
  • business and office etiquette;
  • federal laws, regulation, and guidance affecting federal child nutrition programs. 
Skill to: 
  • provide leadership as a member of a team by assisting with staff evaluations, recruitment and retention of staff, office planning, and workload distribution;
  • effectively communication both in speech and writing including telephone conversations, webinars, emails, and letters;
  • effectively manage time and multiple short and long-term tasks;
  • effectively direct and assign staff on multiple short and long-term tasks and projects. 
Ability to: 
  • communicate through listening, observation, and conversation to effectively understand questions and situations, guide staff in researching solutions and formulating answers, and provide support to staff members;
  • organize and facilitate program management responsibilities both individually and as part of a team;
  • read, understand, and explain detailed information in state or federal laws, regulations and policies;
  • develop and maintain professional relationships in order to work closely and collaboratively with coworkers, districts and schools, and other agencies;
  • complete work independently and also work collaboratively;
  • communicate tactfully and effectively with state and local agency personnel, administrators, and the public;
  • travel in and out of state;
  • be familiar with Microsoft Office tools such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
